The fluorometer specializes in the evaluation of the effective quantum yield of photochemical energy conversion in photosystem II. Like other fluorometers, it applies very weak pulse-modulated light from lightemitting diode (LED) to excite fluorescence, and detects exclusively the fluorescence resulting from this modulated excitation.
The non-modulated fluorescence excited by the internal halogen lamp is not sensed. Therefore, the halogen light can be utilized to manipulate the efficiency of fluorescence production without disturbing the measured fluorescence signal. The excellent insensitivity against unmodulated light is essential for saturation pulses analysis of photosynthesis.
